The Small Hours is a new peer support hub for artists in Nova Scotia with caregiving responsibilities. Founded by Hanna Wolf in 2022, the project exists to connect parent-artists, helping to develop relationships, share strategies and inspire new ideas for celebrating the value of holding the dual role of parent and artist. Children are welcomed and encouraged to attend events.

The first meeting was held in November 2022 at Halifax Public Library where participants explored questions such as ‘Explore the positive aspect of caregiving on your artistic practice‘, and ‘What would a family-friendly residency look like for you?’ Some of the responses are shared below.

Future meetings will be held throughout 2023 and are free and open to anyone in the community who identifies as a caregiver and interested in exploring how this interplays with their creative life.
